Our first view of the temple, Angkor Wat. Our guide was careful to take us to the less used entrance to give us a calmer first look.
The darker areas of the statues are caused by (originally) worshippers and (lately) tourists rubbing the area for good luck (or, perhaps in this case. for other reasons).

Ta Prohm is probably the most atmospheric of Angkor's many temples, and not just because it was used as one of the locations in the Lara Croft Tomb Raider films. Here you see what nature can do left to its own devices over centuries. The restoration is a balancing act between showing the original design of the buildings and maintaining the evidence of the reclamation by nature
